Bright, bubbly, and ruby-red, this sparkling cocktail is a perfect party drink for the holidays.

While we love an Aperol spritz or good old Prosecco-plus-St-Germain, you might want something a bit warmer and richer in a holiday sparkling drink. Gently sweet, jammy ruby port, pomegranate juice, and bubbles are a gorgeous combination, and the drink comes together in seconds. The result almost reminds us of the sparkling red wine Lambrusco.

Portmanteau Cocktail Recipe

  • 1 ounce (30ml) pomegranate juice

  • 1 ounce (30ml) ruby port

  • 1 dash orange bitters

  • 3 ounces (90ml) sparkling wine

  • One 1-inch round lemon peel, for garnish

  1. Combine all ingredients except lemon peel in a flute. Spritz a 1-inch round of lemon peel, skin side down, over the surface of the drink and discard.

Notes

To make a large batch of this drink, ensure the sparkling wine is well chilled. In a pitcher without ice, combine all ingredients, multiplied by your number of guests, then serve and garnish as directed.
